Cyclists bust through fundraising target with 130-mile ride
On Saturday 5th August a team of intrepid – some might say foolhardy – cyclists from Wood for Trees and sister company MyLife Digital set out on a mission to ride to every Dorothy House charity shop in a single day.
Dorothy House is our chosen charity for 2016-7, and we’re undertaking a number of fundraising events over the year to support this very worthwhile cause that provides hugely valued hospice care in the South West.
As you’ll see from the photos below, several of the team made it all the way round, and they were joined at various intervals by part-timers 😉 who kept the momentum up and the enthusiasm flowing.
Starting at the Dorothy House Hospice in Winsley, just outside Bath (at 06.30hrs), the route took the team to shops in Bradford on Avon, Trowbridge, Westbury, Warminster, Frome, Shepton Mallet, Midsomer Norton, Keynsham, Bath, Corsham, Chippenham, Malmesbury, Calne, Devizes and Melksham. A selfie was duly snapped as proof at each stop, and they finally made it back to Winsley that evening 12 hours later, with 8 hrs 51 mins of cycling under their belts to achieve a round trip of 131.6 miles. Particular mentions are due to Matt Tamea, who dreamed the whole tortuous wheeze up in the first place (and rode it all), Andy Sargent, J Cromack and John Hall for also making it to every stop; to Jon Kelly (Winsley to Frome), Dan Bartlett (Midsomer Norton to Bath), Emma Corbett (Bath to Winsley end), Matt Lord (Chippenham to Winsley end); and to Lotte Buckley and Alex Henderson for essential support services! Thanks also to Essence Cafe, Midsomer Norton for the Ice-creams and Henleys Cake Co. Trowbridge for the cupcakes.
Take a look at this animation of the route and marvel at the magnitude of the achievement!
At the last count our efforts have raised more than £1,700 for Dorothy House – and it’s not too late to support us! Anything you can give will be hugely appreciated and will make those sore parts and funny walks even more worthwhile: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/wft-dorothy-house
First stop – feeling confident…
